MAGNETOSTRICTIVE
AKA Cavitron® type units operate by transferring energy from a transducer or stack, placed in a magnetic field into the handpiece. As the stack contracts and expands energy is released through the tip and onto the tooth surface. Magnetostrictive devises are the most commonly used units in the United States. Operating frequencies are 25,000 (25k) or 30,000 (30k) cycles per second (Hz).
